INTRODUCTION: Knowing the number of dogs becomes relevant because they allow adequate mass vaccination coverage, management of dog populations for animal welfare and avoiding the transmission of zoonotic diseases. Likewise, the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) avoids traditional difficulties that estimation methods could have, such as: avoiding the manipulation of dogs, avoiding damage to field personnel, avoiding data loss, among others. OBJECTIVES: Estimate the size of itinerant dogs through the use of information and communication technologies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cross-sectional analytical study that used a mobile application for geolocation and photographic capture and recapture of itinerant dogs in the district of San Jerónimo de Surco, Lima - Peru. RESULTS: The exploratory phase determined that the sampling area met the requirements for the development of the project: Presence of dogs, presence of garbage points and food sources, hours of greatest observation of dogs from 8 to 12 noon. In the field phase: A total of 110 folders were recorded for each individual on days 1 and 2. The determination of the number of dogs gave a total of 64 dogs seen and 23 reviewed. The estimated dog population size was 146 (95% CI: 101 -192), the human:can ratio was 10.67:1, and the dog density was 975.33 dogs/ km2. CONCLUSIONS: It was possible to identify and estimate the dogs satisfactorily. The photographs were an effective method for the purposes of the study.
