Background: Delirium is a highly prevalent neurobehavioral syndrome and a marker of severity. Current evidence has shown that diagnosis and treatment are frequently inadequate due to a lack of knowledge and erroneous beliefs about it. Objectives: To identify the knowledge, attitudes and practices about the diagnosis and management of Delirium in the medical staff and medical interns who attend the hospitalization services of the Cayetano Heredia Hospital. Methods: 2-phase study: Phase 1 content validation by three experts. Phase 2 Use of the validated instrument to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes and practices on diagnosis and management of Delirium in the medical staff and medical interns in the hospitalization services of the Cayetano Heredia Hospital. Measures of central tendency and proportions were used for the description of the data and parametric tests for the comparison between groups. Results: A questionnaire was applied to 148 participants in hospitalization services. In the knowledge section, a mean number of correct answers was 57.8% (95% CI 52.5-63.1) with no significant difference between the groups evaluated. In the attitudes section, it was evidenced that 25% (n=37) of participants usually use the Method for the evaluation of confusion and 31.1% (n=46) of participants feel confident in the use of neuroleptics in the management of delirium. In the practice section, 86.5% (n=128) of participants use at least one non-pharmacological measure and 8.8% (n=13) of the total use the four measures placed in the instrument. Conclusions: Our questionnaire allowed us to describe the knowledge, attitudes and practices of the medical staff. In this study, deficiencies in knowledge and in the use of non-pharmacological measures were evidenced in Delirium, a conditioning factor for late diagnosis and inadequate management.
