Background: Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a prevalent autoimmune disease that affects several systems, with neuropsychiatric involvement being the most debilitating and deadly. According to the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), they are classified into 19 neuropsychiatric syndromes divided into central and peripheral nervous systems. Objective: To describe the frequency of neuropsychiatric manifestations in patients with SLE admitted to Hospital Cayetano Heredia between 2008-2019. Materials and methods: A retrospective observational study in which 240 medical records of patients diagnosed with SLE were reviewed in the indicated period, according to the SLICC 2012 criteria, of which 55 patients presented neuropsychiatric compromise (NPSLE). The data was recorded in a collection form, then entered into a database in Microsoft Excel 2019. Stata v16 was used for statistical analysis. This study was approved by the Institutional Ethics Committee of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Results: The frequency of neuropsychiatric compromise in patients with SLE was 22, 91%. Of the 55 patients with SLE, 40 had Central Nervous System (CNS) involvement (72.72%), 2 had Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) involvement (3.63%), and 13 both CNS and PNS involvement (23.63%). The most frequent psychiatric disorder was major depressive disorder (30.9%). Conclusions: The frequency of neuropsychiatric involvement in SLE patients at the Cayetano Heredia Hospital (2008 and 2019) was 22.91%, and the CNS manifestations were the most frequent. The most frequent presentation of NPSLE was after the diagnosis of SLE.
