Antecedents: Status Epilepticus (EE) in children is a condition of great morbimortality, which has been scarcely studied at in our medium. Objective: To describe the characteristics of children with status epilepticus managed at Cayetano Heredia Hospital. Material and Methods: Retrospective observational study developed on kids with status epilepticus, managed at Cayetano Heredia Hospital between january and december of 2021, over which a univariate analysis was performed. Results: 28.8% of all attentions in the emergency department for epileptic crisis were attributed to EE. 23 children with 46 cases in 2021 met the selection criteria. The median of age was 2 years, occuring predominantly in males (73.9%) in control for epilepsy (26.1%) at the emergency department (91%). The most frequent semiological type was generalized generalized motor (52.2%) and the most common cause was remote symptomatic (73.9%). The median of total duration was 22 minutes, of total resolution was 7 minutes and of partial resolution was 2 minutes. Midazolam was most frequently used as a first line drug (78%) and phenytoin was the most frequently used as second line drug (85%). Conclusions: EE in children occurred throughout the entire year and were managed according to international management guidelines. Most children were male, with a predominant remote symptomatic etiology and most frequently a motor generalized semiologic type. Mortality was not registered in this study.
