An observational, descriptive-cross-sectional study was designed to evaluate attitudes towards the elderly in 154 health sciences teachers at a private university, during the period May - June 2021, through a sociodemographic record, the Medical Empathy Scale. Jefferson-vHP and Kogan's Scale of Attitudes towards the Elderly; to do this, a bivariate analysis was performed to compare sociodemographic characteristics, level of empathy and attitude. The sample was made up of doctors, nurses, dentists and psychologists. Finding as a result that, the average age of the participants was 47.02 ± 10.93 years, also that, 51.30% presented a positive attitude; furthermore that, none of the sociodemographic characteristics evaluated showed statistical significance, and only the level of empathy was related to attitude (p<0.05). Therefore, it is concluded that the teachers evaluated show a positive attitude towards the elderly and that the level of empathy is proportionally related to a better attitude towards the elderly.
