Objective: To compare the postoperative bleeding time of scalpel incisions applying cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive (CTA), versus diode laser incisions on the lateral edges of the tongue of 24 Holtzman rats with and without anticoagulation. Materials and Methods: The rats were rand omly distributed into two control groups (scalpel and diode laser) and one experimental group (scalpel plus tissue adhesive), equally divided into anticoagulated and non anticoagulated. Results: The Kruskall Wallis test was used to compare all groups, and the Mann Whitney U test to compare two groups. The scalpel plus tissue adhesive groups recorded a postsurgical bleeding time of 48.38 (S.D.±22.69) and 30.25 seconds (S.D.±10.79) in anticoagulated and non anticoagulated rats, respectively, considerably less than the scalpel only groups (p<0.05). The rats in the diode laser groups did not show bleeding. Conclusions: Scalpel incisions applying tissue adhesive present shorter post-surgical bleeding time, and diode laser incisions have no bleeding.
