Background: HIV infection carries a strong social stigma, causing a negative impact on the quality of life of patients. Much of the discriminatory attitudes appear as a result of the lack of information and the fear produced in the origins of the disease with the appearance of AIDS. Objective: To know the perception and level of information of the adult population with access to social networks in Lima, Peru about people living with HIV. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive observational study was carried out that consisted of the virtual collection of surveys carried out during the period of September - November 2021. The data obtained were recorded in bar graphs and circular graphs in the Microsoft Office Excel program 2019. Results: 623 surveys were obtained, of which 54.3% were women. The predominant districts were Santiago de Surco (13.3%) and Miraflores (6.6%). 81.38% identified that HIV and AIDS have different definitions, however 55.8% do not know that an undetectable person does not transmit the virus. 95.67% could be friends with a person with HIV, but only 32.26% could have a relationship with someone who has HIV. Conclusion: The lack of knowledge in the concepts associated with HIV highlights the importance of creating awareness policies and information campaigns in order to eliminate discrimination against people living with HIV.
