The objective of the research was to determine the relationship between the personality factors and the coping styles of adolescents in the 5th grade of secondary school from two schools in Metropolitan Lima. The design was non-experimental, correlational. The sample consisted of 270 schoolchildren, it was non-probabilistic of the intentional type. The NEO FFI Form S Personality Inventory, the Adolescent Coping Scale (ACS) and the Data Sheet were used. Descriptive statistics, normality and Spearman's correlation were evaluated for data analysis. The results indicated low and very low associations between both variables. Neuroticism was negatively correlated with the styles Resolving the problem and Refer to others; and positive correlation with the Non-productive style. Extraversion, Openness, Kindness and Awareness were directly related to the three coping styles. On the other hand, in the correlations between the personality factors with the coping strategies, low and moderate levels were obtained. Four factors were directly associated with productive strategies, while Neuroticism was inversely associated with these, highlighting that Consciousness was directly associated in a moderate intensity with the Strive and Succeed strategy. On the other hand, the personality factors Neuroticism, Openness, Friendliness and Consciousness presented an average level, while Extraversion presented a low level. Finally, the Social Action and Lack of Coping strategies were at a very high level.
