It is essential that the family is present in the disease process and that it acts as a motivating agent that provides help in the 3 pillars of diabetes, which are healthy eating, physical exercise and metabolic control. In addition to this, it is important that people who suffer from it know and put into practice different prevention measures in the areas already mentioned. Objective: To determine the relationship between family support and preventive practices in adult patients aged 65 to 80 years with type II diabetes mellitus to avoid diabetic retinopathy in the Condevilla health center in 2019. Materials and Methods: The present study it is not experimental, descriptive, quantitative, prospective, and cross-sectional. The total population was taken into account, which is 40 patients with their respective relatives. The instrument used was the application of anonymous questionnaires, validated for this research. Ethical principles were taken into account. Results: Of the population of patients, 52.5% carried out adequate preventive practices for retinopathy and in the population of relatives, 50% presented medium family support. There is a relationship between the variables (significance of p = 0.00) .Conclusions: a positive relationship was determined between the variable’s family support and preventive practices.
