The saddleback tamarin (Saguinus fuscicollis) is a neotropical primate that can be found in Peru, Brasil, Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador. This species is currently classified by the IUCN as least concern, however, its population is declining due to habitat fragmentation and illegal traffic. Ultrasonography is a useful diagnostic tool to describe the anatomy of abdominal organs, which is why it was used in this study in order to contribute to improving health management of this species and therefore to it’s preservation. In this study, abdominal ultrasonography was performed in five specimens of S. fuscicollis from the “Patronato del Parque de las Leyendas”, in order to describe abdominal organ’s topography, margins, echogenicity, echotexture, morphology and dimensions. The study concluded that the ultrasonographic characteristics and the topography of the abdominal organs are similar to those described for S. leucopus and other neotropical primates and that the ultrasonic findings in liver, gallblader, stomach, kidneys and bladder are similar to what’s described in dogs and cats. Finally, the spleen of S. fuscicollis showed a decreased echogenicity compared to the liver parenchyma and the kidney cortex, similar to what is described for C. jacchus, but different to dogs, cats and other neotropical primates compared in this study.
