This thesis allowed to corroborate the effectiveness of the summary strategy in the comprehension of narrative written texts in sixth grade students of the primary level of the Educational Institution No. 1008 Virgen de Lourdes in the district of Breña. Research carried out on this population showed that students had difficulties in understanding written texts. Faced with this reality, the objective was set to determine the effects of the application of the summary strategy at the literal, inferential and criterial levels of reading comprehension of narrative texts. The population that participated in the present research was 28 students of the sixth grade of the primary level of the mentioned educational institution. The pre-experimental design was chosen. The Pretest and Post test instruments were applied, respectively, at the beginning and at the end of the investigation. After the pretest was applied, the summary strategy was developed; Then the post-test was applied by which a significant improvement in the reading comprehension of the 6th Grade students of the primary level of the I.E. N ° 1008 "Virgin of Lourdes". The results allow us to observe that, at a general level, the reading comprehension competence improved from 43% to an average 82%; Literally, students improved from 61% to 93 % on average; at the inferential level, from 50% to 79%; and at the criterial level, from an average 14% to 68%. It is concluded that the effect of the summary strategy favorably influences the improvement of reading comprehension.
