SARS-CoV-2 causing COVID-19 disease, first appeared in Wuhan (China) in December 2019. In Peru as of October 12, 840,090 positive cases and 33,740 deaths were reported through the Ministry of Health. Several authors have found discordant results regarding the association between altitude, SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 mortality. In April 2020, it is published that both infection and mortality rates are reduced at high altitudes in Tibet, Ecuador and Bolivia. By June 2020 they report, with data at the provincial level in Peru, that the case fatality rate does not vary with the altitude of residence and that there is less protection of the female sex on mortality in high altitude populations. On the other hand, with data from the United States and Mexico, they report that the mortality rate increases with altitude. With district-level data in Peru, they report in August that, from 1000 to 4700 meters of altitude, there is no change in the number of cases of COVID-19 infection. Based on these discrepant results and lack of information on the relationship between age and sex in COVID-19, multivariate and bivariate analyses have been performed at altitudes from 5 to 4705 meters, where it is concluded that there is no protection of altitude against the vulnerability of being infected by SARS-CoV-2, mortality and case fatality rate by COVID-19. Likewise, the male and female sexes have the same risk of infection by SARS-CoV-2, but the male sex has a higher risk of mortality and lethality rate by COVID-19. Also, the age from 20 to 120 years, have a higher risk of mortality and case fatality rate.
