Background: Quality control of the concentration of fluoride in salt for human consumption is a guarantee of the availability of a nutritional microelement and also preventive to reduce the prevalence of dental caries in the population. In Peru, the responsible entities do not carry out this monitoring. Objective: Determinate the concentration of fluoride in salt of brands marketed in the district of Independencia, department of Lima-Peru. Methods and Materials: Descriptive, cross-sectional, observational study. The population consisted of a database with records of the fluoride concentration of salt from a convenience sample of a total of 10 packages of 9 different brands of salt for human consumption collected from various authorized establishments (markets and supermarkets) between May-June 2018. Results: Only 36% of the salt brands marketed in the district of Independencia complied with the Peruvian Technical Standard. The brands that were within the permitted range were: Lobos, PuraSal, Bell's, Metro. Conclusion: It is concluded that the population of Independencia is exposed to fluoridated salt consumption with and without optimal concentrations.
