Background: Multiple studies have revealed the relationship between preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) knowledge and sociodemographic factors of patients and healthcare providers, as well as the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes regarding this therapy. However, no studies have been conducted on medical students, who will be future providers. Objectives: To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge about HIV PrEP and sociodemographic factors in medical students at a private university, as well as the relationship between their level of knowledge about PrEP and their attitudes and perception. Materials and methods: The cross-sectional study used a selfadministered virtual survey. The knowledge section was graded with scores and a numerical value was given to the attitudes and perceptions. Spearman's RHO coefficient was used to analyze the correlation of variables. Results: 478 students answered the survey. The average score was 6.3. The level of knowledge was significantly higher among participants aged 21 to 23 years (p = 0.004), Catholic or without religion (p = 0.002) and belonging to the last years (p => 0.001). The level of knowledge was related to some attitudes and perceptions of the participants. Conclusions: This exploratory study found a relationship between the level of knowledge, sociodemographic factors and some attitudes of the participants. Evidence-based educational interventions could improve awareness and reduce stigmas about PrEP. Due to its limitations, we recommend conducting further research on students and healthcare providers.
