Burnout is a phase of vehement mental and physical exhaustion produced by excessive and extended stress, which occurs when the individual is overwhelmed and incompetent in being able to satisfy the constant demands that they face in their workplace. Objective: To determine the frequency of Burnout Syndrome in Ecuadorian endocrinologists. Methods: The research is an observational, cross-sectional, descriptive. The Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire and a sociodemographic survey were applied to 170 physicians, from the endocrinology societies of Quito (70) and Guayaquil (100), representing 89.4% of the endocrinology specialists. For the processing and analysis of the results, we started from techniques of tabulation, grouping and synthesis of the acquired results; The SPSS v15.0 program was used to obtain the absolute frequencies, percentages. Results: Two cases of Burnout were found in Guayaquil (2%) and 3 cases in Quito (4.3%). Regarding the frequencies of the dimensions of the Maslach Burnout Inventory instrument, the Emotional exhaustion dimension, a high level was found in 60.9% in doctors from Guayaquil and 39.1% from Quito. Regarding the Depersonalization dimension, a high level was found in 20% of specialists from Guayaquil and 80% of specialists from Quito. Regarding Personal Accomplishment, endocrinologists from Guayaquil obtained a low level in 44.4% and those of Quito 55.6%. Likewise, it was observed that Burnout Syndrome does not occur in specialist women and also affects doctors who work more than 8 hours a day. Conclusions: The frequency of Burnout Syndrome is low in endocrinologists from Guayaquil and Quito. There is a higher frequency of emotional exhaustion in doctors from Guayaquil, a higher depersonalization in doctors from Quito and a similar frequency of low personal fulfillment in both groups.
