The Pithecia monachus or also known as black huapo, is a neotropical primate endemic to South America, it is distributed in Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador and in northeastern Peru. This species is considered to be of Least Concern by the IUCN and is listed on Appendix II of CITES. The study included five specimens from the zoo of the Patronato del Parque de las Leyendas, Lima; and three specimens from Isla de los Monos, Iquitos; who underwent an abdominal ultrasound; describing the topography, characteristics and dimensions of the abdominal organs. The animals were fasted, then subjected to chemical restraint. The Esaote ultrasound equipment, MyLab GammaTM and MyLab OneTM models, were used with SC3123 micro convex 4-9 MHz transducers and with SL15 43 3-13 MHz linear transducer; the images and videos obtained were recorded and stored in an electronic version. A descriptive statistical analysis of the data was performed, obtaining the mean as a measure of central tendency and the standard deviation and limit values as a measure of dispersion. From the study we can conclude that the ultrasound and topographic characteristics of the liver, gallbladder, stomach, kidneys, bladder and uterine body were in general similar to those reported in New World primates, and domestic canids and felids. The echographic and topographic characteristics of the spleen and testes are generally similar to those described in those reported in other species of neotropical primates, canines and domestic felines, differing in the most dorso-medial and deep location of the spleen, and by presenting a tenuous demarcation of the mediastinum testis in the testicles. This study constitutes the first description of abdominal ultrasound in the black huapo monkey (Pithecia monachus).
