Background: Acute diverticulitis is an intestinal pathology that can cause morbidity and mortality. It has a high prevalence in western countries. The management is medical or surgical depending on the severity. Objective: To describe the characteristics of surgical and non-surgical management in adult patients with the diagnosis of acute diverticulitis in a private center between the years 2015 and 2020. Materials and methods: Descriptive-retrospective study where information was collected from clinic history using a data collection sheet. The variables were represented by percentages, frequency, and total average. Results: 52.05% patients were female. The mean age was 57.56 years (SD 14.29). 77.78% of the patients were classified with Hinchey Ia, 11.11% were Hinchey Ib, 6.94% were Hinchey II, 2.77% were Hinchey III, and 1.38% were Hinchey IV. The most widely used medical management was ciprofloxacin plus metronidazole in 55.88% of the patients. 3 patients underwent Hartmann's colostomy and the remaining 2 underwent peritoneal lavage and drainage. 2 patients were reoperated for colostomy closure and 1 was not reoperated due to advanced age and presenting comorbidities. There was no mortality. Conclusions: The female population was the most affected, the mean age was 57.6 years (SD 14.29). The Hinchey Ia classification was the most frequent. Ciprofloxacin plus Metronidazole were the most widely used antibiotics in medical management. The most frequent surgery performed was Hartmann's colostomy. There was no mortality.
