Background: Auditory comprehension plays an important rol during the acquisition of oral language and communication. Furthermore, its development stimulates expressive language and better learning during the child's school stage. Objective: To determine the level auditory comprehension of language in children from 5 to 6 years 11 months belonging to four educational institutions in the district of Independencia. Materials and Methods: Descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study carried out by applying the Test of Auditory Comprehension of Language (TACL), which evaluates vocabulary, morphology and syntax, to 96 children. Results: 70.8% of the children presented a normal level of auditory comprehension of language, 12.5% were at risk and 16.7% were deficit. Examining the evaluation by sections, 75% of the children presented a normal level in vocabulary, 77.1% were normal in morphology and 81.3% were normal in syntax. When looking at the level of auditory comprehension of language, vocabulary, morphology and syntax with gender, age and grade levels no statiscally significant differences were found. However, in syntax there was a statiscally significant difference when related to the grade levels. Conclusions: The majority of children evaluated demonstrated a normal range of auditory comprehension of language. The relation between syntax and grade level, a statiscally significant difference was found since kindergarten 5- year - old children performed better than the first grade primary children.
