Objective: To determine preoperative anxiety in pregnant women scheduled for surgery at the Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal, 2022. Materials and methods: The present investigation was developed from the quantitative approach and in terms of its methodological design it was descriptive and cross-sectional. The population consisted of 378 pregnant women. The technique used was the survey and the instrument was the anxiety scale (APAIS) comprising 6 items and 2 dimensions. Results: Regarding age, the minimum was 18 years, the maximum was 42 years and the mean was 29.94 years. Regarding preoperative anxiety, those who were anxious predominated with 51.3% (n=194), followed by non-anxious with 48.7% (n=184). According to its dimensions, in need of information, those with average information requirements predominated with 45% (n=170), followed by high information requirements with 37.6% (n=142) and little information required with 17, 5% (n=66) and finally in signs of anxiety those with anxiety predominated with 46.6% (n=176), followed by those without anxiety with 53.4% (n=202). Conclusion: Regarding preoperative anxiety, those who were anxious and not anxious predominated. According to its dimensions, in need of information, those with average information requirements predominated, followed by high information requirements and little information required, and finally, in anxiety, those with anxiety and without anxiety predominated.
