F-M01.03.04-DRT/PG-02. – (Rev. 1) vii ABSTRACT The present research analyzed the relationship between the level of knowledge and self-care practices in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated during the last quarter of 2023, at the Central Military Hospital in the city of Lima. The study was quantitative and had a non-experimental cross-sectional correlational design. A simple random sampling of 111 outpatients with type 2 diabetes was used to calculate the sample size. The self-care knowledge survey and the self-care practices survey were used to collect information, which was processed using the IBM SPSS STATISTICS version 25 statistical program. The findings indicate that most patients have a high level of knowledge about self-care in the disease dimension (63%) and in the home care dimension (71%). Similarly, the self-care practices of users with type 2 diabetes (86%) were found to be adequate in the exercise dimension. 77 % in the food dimension and 59 % in the pharmacological treatment dimension. In conclusion, there is a positive correlation between a variety of knowledge about type 2 diabetes and self-care practices. Cronbach's alpha coefficients in the retest were (α = 0.65 and α = 0.88). The correlation between knowledge and self-care practices was R = 0.94.
