This research focuses on assessing the seismic vulnerability of school buildings in Salaverry, specifically at I.E. N°81024 "Miguel Grau Seminario" and I.E.A.C Parroquial Virgen de la Puerta, using the Hirosawa method. It is important to note that this method is widely recognized and officially used, even by the Ministry of Construction of Japan, to determine seismic vulnerability. The motivation behind this research stems from concerns about the possibility of a significant earthquake striking the coastal region of Peru. Therefore, the main objective of this thesis is to analyze the seismic vulnerability of school buildings in the Salaverry district by 2023. Additionally, the aim is to model these structures using specialized software for building analysis and design – ETABS 2019. The research findings indicate that I.E. N°81024 "Miguel Grau Seminario" does not exhibit seismic vulnerability in any direction, as its basic seismic resistance index (Is) is greater than its structural judgment index (Iso) based on the Hirosawa method. Through dynamic seismic analysis, the values of floor drifts were obtained, being 0.005559, 0.006138, 0.005563 and 0.006143 in the X direction, and 0.002572, 0.002475, 0.002575 and 0.002478in the Y direction, all of which meet the maximum lateral displacement requirements set by standard E 030, ensuring seismic-resistant behavior. On the other hand, I.E.A.C Parroquial Virgen de la Puerta shows seismic vulnerability in the X direction, where the structural judgment index (Iso) exceeds its basic seismic resistance index (Is) on its second level. The values of drifts in the same direction, obtained through dynamic seismic analysis, are 0.235601, 0.278741, 0.240957 and 0.296216, exceeding the values established by standard E 030, indicating the vulnerable nature of the building. Therefore, it is recommended that the institution's authorities develop a structural reinforcement plan to mitigate potential damage in the event of an earthquake.
