ABSTRACT This research was to evaluate the effect of three days of fasting, before the benefit in guinea pigs (Cavia Guinea pig) on the performance of housing in the Farm QUERCO CUY Pampas de San Juan-Laredo. 969 male guinea pigs of improved lines were used. Guinea pigs were fed during their evaluation with a mixed diet. Three times of fasting was evaluated 6 hours (T1), 10 hours (T2), 14 hours (T3), for which weight control is made before fasting, constituting the initial weight and after each time of fasting post constituting the final weight gain. The parameters evaluated were: weight loss percentage, carcass yield, discards percentage, mortalitypercentage, loss cost and cost benefit. The data were statistically evaluated with analysis of variance, Duncan test and Chi - square. By statistical analysis, the fasting time had significant differences (p> 0.05) in terms of treatment, the percentage of weight loss was 2.5% for T1, T2 4.1% to 5.5% for T3. The carcass yield was 59.75%, 62.45% and 64.75% for T1, T2 and T3 respectively. The percentages of mortality and discard treatments show no significant differences (p> 0.05). The treatment had the best cost-benefit ratio was treatment T3 with 1.72 followed by T1 and T2 to 1.65 with 1.58. It is concluded that 14 hours of fasting greater performance improved housing lines is obtained.
