ABSTRACT The objective of this study was the identify hazards and assess risks in the Agroindustrial Biotechnology and Microbiology laboratory for the subsequent implementation of controls that contribute to making their facilities safer. Likewise, it was considered necessary the implementation of the 5S methodology as a basis for occupational health and safety management. For the execution of this methodology were made: surveys, check list, visual inspection and use of red cards; which allowed us to have an initial diagnosis of the laboratory and thus be able to establish improvement indicators. Its application allowed us to determine the importance of the application of 5S in a system that is in search of continuous improvement. For the identification of hazards and risk assessment, a situational analysis was first performed to identify the level of compliance with current legislation and then the methodology established in the Occupational Health and Safety Law 29783 was used, taking the Resolution formats as support. Ministerial 050 - 2013. Finally, 19 safety and occupational health hazards were identified for which controls were implemented to minimize and eliminate the hazards found.
