Despite the fact that several studies in the vast literature on Technology Transfer (TT) have discussed its barriers, benefits and perceived attributes, the relationship with the entrepreneurial capacity of the recipients of the process is a topic that remains understudied, even more so in markets with little technological development. This led us to ask ourselves whether the ability to identify opportunities -proper of SME entrepreneurs- influences the perception of this key factor of innovation. Faced with these questions, this academic work set out to analyze how the entrepreneurial capacity of Small and Medium Entrepreneurs in the Leather and Footwear sector affects the perception of technology transfer. To select the sample population, criteria such as type of company, participation in innovation activities and job position were used, obtaining a total sample of 81 entrepreneurs with experience in this industry. We worked under a descriptive and non-experimental design, as well as a transectional-explanatory design with a Likert scale questionnaire. Among the findings, it was determined that the variety of strategic partners helps the entrepreneurs to see greater benefits from TT, while the better interpretation of the information makes them perceive greater risks. The relationships, however, are basic and show that the system is weak and needs to be strengthened. The proposed model outlines the existing situation, and raises the need for a supplier linkage program to increase the likelihood of successful transfer in the Leather and Footwear sector by boosting partnerships. The discussion analyzes the findings in comparison with previous results, and with the environment and systems approach considered for the present scientific study.
