ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to determine the best proportion of substrates for seedling production of Physalis peruviana L., Cajamarquino ecotype from botanical seed. The experiment consisted of 4 treatments based on different proportions of agricultural land, peat and sand as a substrate (T00 or control, 1: 1: 1; T01, 3: 2: 1; T02, 3: 1: 1 and, T03 , 2: 1: 1) in a randomized complete block design. Evaluations of plant height, number of leaflets, root length and stem diameter were performed at 7, 14, 25, 35 and 50 days after transplantation. In the first evaluation made 7 days after the transplant, no statistical significance was found for any of the variables evaluated. The results reveal that T00 and T03 are the most indicated treatments for the production of Physalis peruviana seedlings, causing significant increases in plant height from 3.47cm to 13.73cm (T00) and 3.46cm to 13.73cm (T03) and root length from 6.75cm to 37.80cm (T00) and 6.52cm to 37.22cm (T03), number of leaflets from 4.82 units to 17.60 units (T00) and 4.75 units to 17.48 units (T03) and stem diameter from 1.22mm to 7.75 mm (T00) and 1.26mm to 7.71mm (T03) from the second to the fifth evaluation.
