Abstract: La presente investigación de tipo cuantitativo, descriptivo y correlacional de corte transversal, se realizó con el propósito de determinar la relación entre el estrés y prácticas de autocuidado en adultos mayores que acuden a consulta externa del hospital de Leoncio Prado de Huamachuco, en una muestra de 68 adultos mayores. A quienes se les aplicó dos instrumentos, “Escala de Estrés Percibido (PSS) y “Test de Autocuidado del adulto mayor”. Para la correlación de variables se utilizó la prueba estadística no paramétrica, correlación de Spearman .Llegando a los siguientes resultados el nivel de estrés el 69.1% de los adultos mayores presentaron un nivel de estrés moderado, el 1.5% de los presentaron un nivel de estrés leve, el 83.8% de los adultos mayores muestra prácticas de autocuidado inadecuadas, el 16.2% prácticas de autocuidado adecuadas, se concluye que existe una relación significativa e inversa entre el nivel de estrés y las prácticas de autocuidado (Rho=-.623).
