ABSTRACT The aim of this research was to determine the risk factors related to diabetes mellitus in students of Statistics at the National University of Trujillo, July-September 2024. A non-experimental, correlational longitudinal study was carried out, considering a sample of 120 students. Data collection was carried out using the FINDRISC test, the data collected were stored in an Excel database and processed with the statistical software RStudio version 24. The findings found in the study were: male gender 60.8 %, age group was 18 to 23 years with 90%, academic cycles I and III cycle with 26.7 and 25% respectively. The level of risk of developing diabetes mellitus according to the FINDRISC scale was low and in relation to non-modifiable risk factors, age with 45.5% aged 24 years and older (p=0.014) and family history 28.6% (p=0.000) are considered non- modifiable risk factors in relation to DM. Because their percentages show statistically significant difference as their p-value is below 0.05. In relation to modifiable risk factors such as BMI more than 30 kg/m2, 42.9 % (p =0.05) were found to have a BMI over 30 kg/m2. 42.9 % (p =0.000), female BP 85 cm or more 41.2% (p =0.002), male BP 92 cm or more 35.7% (p =0.000), physical activity less than 30 minutes 22.2% (p =0.001) are considered non-modifiable risk factors in relation to DM. Because their percentages show statistically significant difference since their p- value is below 0.05, with the exception of vegetable consumption
