Irrigation water is a vital resource in rice production Oryza sativa L. “arroz”, particularly in regions such as the District of San José, Pacasmayo, and La Libertad. This study addresses the economic valuation of water used in rice cultivation, emphasizing the importance of its efficient use to ensure sustainability and agricultural productivity in the area. To conduct this research, both quantitative and qualitative methods were employed, including surveys of local farmers, cost-benefit analysis of different irrigation technologies, and econometric models to estimate the profitability of irrigation water. Three irrigation systems were evaluated: traditional flood irrigation, drip irrigation, and sprinkler irrigation, considering their impact on water consumption and rice production. The results indicated that drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, combined with precision irrigation practices, significantly increased rice productivity while reducing water consumption compared to traditional irrigation. Additionally, the economic valuation revealed that although advanced technologies involve a considerable initial investment, they offer a higher long-term economic return due to water savings and increased production. The study concludes that the implementation of advanced irrigation technologies and the adoption of more efficient water management practices are crucial to ensuring the sustainability and profitability of rice cultivation in San José, Pacasmayo. It is recommended to strengthen farmer education and training, develop public policies that promote rational water use, and encourage community cooperation for shared and effective management of water resources. The economic valuation of water is presented as a key tool in making informed decisions for farmers.
