ABSTRACT The objective was to evaluate the effect of pharmaceutical intervention on adherence to treatment in hypertensive patients who attend a private pharmaceutical establishment. The study has an experimental and prospective design, it sampled 53 users diagnosed with hypertension. Likewise, the pharmaceutical intervention was structured in 3 stages. First, the Morisky Green-Levine Test (MMAS-8) and Battle Test were used to specify the degree of adherence to drug treatment; Second, the pharmaceutical intervention was carried out, which consisted of 7 modules taught for three weeks, later the Tests indicated in the first stage were applied. The results were that 60.4% hypertensives belong to the female gender and the most frequent age group was between 37 to 65 years. Regarding the Morisky Green-Levine Test (MMAS-8), it was obtained that before applying the pharmaceutical intervention, 67.9%, 28.3% and 3.8% of hypertensives had a low level of adherence, medium and high, respectively. After the pharmaceutical intervention, 28.3%, 50.9%, and 20.8% of hypertensives had a low, medium, and high level of adherence, respectively (p<0.05). Regarding the Battle Test, it is observed that, before the application of the pharmaceutical intervention, 32.7% and 67.9% of users had a low and high level of knowledge, respectively. After the pharmaceutical intervention, 5.7% and 94.3% of users had a low and high level of knowledge, respectively (p<0.05). Concluding that a pharmaceutical intervention improves adherence to drug treatment.
