The objective of this research is to determine the relationship between the variables autonomy and self-esteem in 4-year-old children from private educational institutions in the district of Trujillo, 2024. This research corresponds to the basic type with a correlational design. The sample is made up of 158 four-year-old boys and girls, in five private educational institutions at the initial level of the Trujillo district in the year 2024. For the application we will use two instruments: Autonomy observation guide that includes 14 items and a self-esteem observation guide that consists of 14 items. Both instruments have been validated by experts, having a high level of reliability. The results indicated a significant moderate positive correlation (rho = 0.413, p < 0.05) between these variables, suggesting that a higher level of autonomy is associated with higher self-esteem. This finding is consistent with the research of Meza (2018), who also found a significant relationship between these dimensions in young children. From the theoretical framework, it is supported that autonomy in children promotes their self-esteem, since it allows them to feel more secure and capable of facing challenges independently (García, 2021). These results suggest that promoting autonomy in children can be an effective strategy to improve their self-esteem and general well-being
