Abstract: La actividad minera ha sido uno de los principales motores de crecimiento en el Perú con alrededor del 10% del total de la producción nacional. Sin embargo, genera impactos en el medio ambiente y sus componentes, que deben ser evaluados continuamente como
parte de sus compromisos ambientales. En este contexto, se desarrollan los instrumentos
de gestión ambiental que son herramientas aprobadas por el Estado Peruano. La
información que se presenta en los instrumentos de gestión ambiental proviene de
evaluaciones biológicas de la flora y fauna que habita un área determinada, en las que se requiere de la aplicación de metodologías apropiadas. En estas evaluaciones, las aves son uno de los grupos más relevantes porque son el grupo con mayor riqueza y abundancia
entre los vertebrados, y evaluarlas nos ayuda a entender cómo varía la biodiversidad en el tiempo y espacio (Carignan & Villard, 2002). Con este fin, se caracterizaron las comunidades de aves de dos tipos de bosque dentro de unidades mineras del norte de
Perú: el bosque estacionalmente seco de Piura y el bosque nublado de Cajamarca. El
análisis de datos permitió determinar que el área muestreada en el bosque estacionalmente
seco presenta una diversidad y composición de aves particular, fuertemente influenciada por el Niño Costero, y que incluye 27 especies de interés para la conservación (40% del total registrado), y cuatro (04) especies indicadoras de calidad de hábitat, incluyendo al
especialista de bosque seco, el Cortarrama Peruano, Phytotoma raimondii. Asimismo, el
área muestrada en el bosque nublado presenta un ensamble de aves típico de este tipo de bosque, y que evidencia posibles efectos de los incendios forestales de noviembre 2016;
se registraron 24 especies de interés para la conservación (30% del total registrado), y
cinco (05) especies indicadoras de calidad de hábitat.
Mining has been one of the main drivers of growth in Peru with approximately 10% of the gross national product. Regardless, this activity has significant environmental impacts on biodiversity and its components, mainly flora and fauna, that must be continuously assessed as part of the environmental commitments. In this context, environmental impact assessments and similar management instruments are developed, and ought to be approved by Peruvian environmental authorities. The information presented in these environmental management instruments is gathered in biological evaluations of the flora and fauna that inhabits a certain area in which the application of appropriate methodologies is required. In these assessments, birds are one of the most relevant groups, with high species richness and density compared to other vertebrates and monitoring them might help us elucidate how biodiversity varies in time and space (Carignan & Villard, 2002). The scope of this work is to characterize the bird communities of two types of forest within mining units in the north of Peru: the seasonally dry forest of Piura and the cloud forest of Cajamarca. Data analysis allowed to determine that the area sampled in the seasonally dry forest holds a particular diversity and bird community composition and structure, strongly influenced by El Niño Southern Oscillation, and that support 27 species of conservation concern (40% of the total registered), and four (04) habitat quality indicator species, including the dry forest specialist, the Peruvian Plantcutter, Phytotoma raimondii. Similarly, the sampled area in the cloud forest presents a typical bird assemblage for this type of forest, and that manifest possible effects of the wildfires occurred on November 2016; 24 species of conservation concern were recorded in the area (30% of the total), and five (05) habitat quality indicator species.
