The objective of the present investigation reports the results of state - trait anxiety levels of hypertensive patients attending a cardiology clinic in a national hospital in Lima. The study is a descriptive research and the design used was descriptive, transversal. The sample is 100 patients were administered. The Inventory of Anxiety State-Risk With regard to the results it has been found that according to anxiety state 25% of hypertensive patients have a high level of anxiety state. In relation to trait anxiety, 23% of patients have a high trait anxiety level. In relation to the presence of anxiety according to sex, women have 30% high anxiety state, as well as 25% high trait anxiety. With respect to males, they have a high anxiety level of 50%, and a high trait anxiety of 33%. With respect to the presence of anxiety and the time of illness, in the anxiety state in patients who have from one year to 5 years of illness, 15% have a high level of anxiety. Patients who have more than 5 years of disease, 24% have a high level of anxiety. In relation to trait anxiety, those who have one year to 5 years of illness 14% have a high level, while those who have more than 5 years of disease have a 31% high anxiety. According to the results, we observed that the levels of state anxiety in all the variables studied are more significant, this gives us to understand that patients perceive the situation of onset or development of the disease, as a threatening situation, since by being a chronic disease and the presence of changes in eating habits and life status generates a greater presence of anxiety.
