Abstract: La reabsorción dental está presente en 5 a 10% de la población general que nunca ha sido sometida a tratamiento de ortodoncia. La reabsorción radicular data en los reportes de Schwarzkopf, en 1887, quien observo la reabsorción en dientes extraídos, siendo una consecuencia del tratamiento de ortodoncia la reabsorción radicular externa. Se define la reabsorción radicular como la perdida de cemento y dentina en la superficie apical o lateral de la raíz de un diente, debido a la actividad cementolítica y eventualmente dentinolítica de naturaleza irreversible, que puede ser fisiológica o patológica, de naturaleza multifactorial y compleja.
