In this case study the nursing care process was carried out on a 27-week preterm newborn who was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of the Cayetano Heredia National Hospital for presenting hyaline membrane disease and early neonatal sepsis. NANDA domains were evaluated according to the following significant diagnoses: Ineffective respiratory pattern, Ineffective thermoregulation, Ineffective protection, Pain, Ineffective feeding pattern of the infant, Risk of fluid volume deficit, Risk of altered skin integrity, Poor knowledge. Hyaline membrane disease is a common cause of respiratory distress syndrome in the preterm newborn. Oxygen therapy was one of the nursing interventions that were applied in an intubated patient in mechanical ventilation, which resulted in a decrease in respiratory work and FiO2, improving the respiratory pattern, and in identifying the needs of premature infants and improving their hospital stay
