The research carried out was based on reading comprehension and academic performance, although they are different variables but there is a link between both. The first term involves the ability to understand and interpret texts or concepts and the second variable deals with the degree of knowledge reached. The knowledge of both terms was of vital importance for the development of the present thesis. The main objective of the study was to corroborate if the reading comprehension influences the academic performance of the students of the I and II cycle in the professional careers of nursing, physiotherapy and pharmacy - Instituto Daniel Alcides Carrión - Lima. The research carried out is characterized by being explanatory and applicative, in addition the design used was expository or retrospective; the study population was conformed by the Daniel Alcides Carrión - Lima Superior Institute and the sample consisted of 52 students from the professional careers of Nursing, Physiotherapy and Pharmacy; and a sampling with probability of 95% confidence and 5% error margin. For the collection and measurement of the information according to the study variables, a survey was used as a tool, which was applied to Doctors in Education, who from their critical level provided contributions to verify the objectivity of the research. Within the expected results, it was found that, in effect, reading comprehension significantly influences the academic performance of the students of the I and II cycle in the evaluated professional careers.
