A study was conducted in order to determine the relationship between marketing strategies and preference of a department store; customers Ripley and Saga Falabella. For this work, a study of explanatory type of correlational design in a representative sample of 190 customers, 100 for Saga and 90 for Ripley was performed. Found as results that the general characteristics of the buyers of department stores Ripley and Saga Falabella, is the ethereal group of 23 to 30 years, mostly professionals and unmarried dependent or married with children, depending on the store workers. The proportion of purchases in department stores of respondents care 88 percent to 96 percent Ripley and Saga Falabella. The reasons for preference of buyers from department stores Saga Falabella and Ripley are: Have variety of products and have the card store credit. The frequency of visits by buyers of department stores Ripley and Saga Falabella is, once a month, followed by twice a month. The perception of innovation related to preferences stores both in the case of Ripley to Saga Falabella. The perception of the price convenience, variable related to juvenile image and product variety are factors related to the Saga shop and not of Ripley. As for the overall service and care staff we found that both variables are related to the preference of Saga, while only the first is associated with the preference of Ripley. The comfort of spaces associated with the preference of Saga, but not to Ripley. As for after-sales satisfaction could be found that is associated with the preference of Saga, but not to Ripley. Finally regarding the liking of the advertising image of department stores, both customer groups this indicator associated with the concept of preference Saga and Ripley respectively.
