The objective of this research is to determine the level of irrational beliefs in university students of the fifth and sixth cycles of a private university in Metropolitan Lima. The sample is constituted by 117 university students of both sexes, being 31 men and 86 women, with ages ranging between 17 and 46 years. The research is descriptive and non-experimental in design. The Irrational Belief Inventory of Albert Ellis was used in order to evaluate the possible existence of irrational beliefs in the individual, and if such beliefs would be hindering certain areas of his life. It is concluded that those evaluated have an “average” level of 76.25% in irrational beliefs; however, there was a high level in the irrational belief VI, with 22.2%; in the irrational belief III, with 9.4%; and in the irrational belief II, with 5.1%. Based on the results, an intervention plan was elaborated consisting of eight sessions of 60 minutes, in order to diminish the irrational beliefs presented in the university students.
