The use of intracranial catheters, especially the external ventricular drainage is one of the most frequent practices in patients with neurological problems. Due to the difficulty in the placement technique of these catheters, as well as the complications that we may encounter due of to incorrect manipulation of the them, it is necessary to standardize the care of the patients carrying these catheters, to prevent possible complications and to give quality care. In this paper, we describe the ventricular drainage, its indications, of the implantation technique, the necessary equipment and material to perform this procedure nursing intervention, and as well listing its complications and establishing final recommendations.
