The present study aimed to determine the influence of the application of the educational "Vivir Mejor" programme and the level of self-care of patients of the Santa dialysis Center. Chimbote 2017. The method used was descriptive comparative design quasi-experimental that helped establish the causal association between the variables, cross-cutting and quantitative type. The study sample was conformed by 92 patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment served in 2017, in the service of Nephrology of the Santa dialysis Center. A questionnaire was used as a tool to data collection. The results of the participation of the patients was obtained in the pre test than the 19.57% presented a good level with respect to the variable self-care, the 36.96% a regular level and a 43.48% a poor level. With respect to the results of the post test was obtained that the 36.96% presented a good level, the 41.30% a regular level and a 21.74% a deficient level. It was concluded that significant differences there are between the pre test and post test about self-care of patients of the dialysis centre, being the degree of significance of both tests less than 0.05, accepting the general hypothesis. It was recommended to allocate economic resource and staffing, in order to continue the educational intervention program called live better and further taking into account the positive results of the research, promoting self-care of the hemodialysis patients to decrease the bad praxis that may impair their health.
