Abstract The traditional game of beans was investigated under the qualitative approach. Eighteen children from the 2nd-grade 50721 Chicón primary school from the San Isidro de Chicón community in the province of Urubamba participated. This research included the participation of teachers and parents, as well as observation, in-depth interviews and document analysis. It was possible to verify that the traditional game known as the "bean game" has been incorporated as a didactic strategy to facilitate the learning of mathematics in children in the second grade of primary school. In the same way, the participant observations show that there are few ancestral games that persist, among them 'los porotos' (beans), 'qollos', 'plic-plac', 'canicas-chuchus', highlighting the traditional game of beans. This game involves procedures, routines and materials coming from the natural and cultural context of the community, with curricular benefits and that have a favorable impact on the learning of quantity problem solving in second grade primary school children. Keywords: Traditional bean game, Andean community, mathematical learning, participatory observation, Andean socio-cultural context.
