The thesis research is focused on the analysis of cost overruns and mitigation strategies in Megaprojects in the hydrocarbon and energy sector (Oil & Gas). The methodology applied in this research was developed in a qualitative approach, exploratory scope and non-experimental design of a cross-sectional type, taking as a technique the documentary analysis, based on the studies of the energy consulting firm Wood Mackenzie and the consulting firm Ernst & Young (EY), in relation to the cost overruns that Oil & Gas megaprojects have presented in recent times. From the study, it is possible to analyze and verify that cost overruns in Megaprojects in the Oil & Gas sector are a common phenomenon, with cost overruns on a scale proportional to the complexity and size of the project, so it is essential to evaluate the causes such as the planning of activities, monitoring risks, estimating costs, the implications of deficiencies in contracts and selection of contractors, as well as establishing strategies for their mitigation within the level of deviation according to the uncertainty of the project. The conclusions are focused on the deployment of mechanisms to mitigate cost deviations, contributing to the execution of future megaprojects in the hydrocarbon and energy sector (Oil & Gas) strategically articulating the contractual, legal, technical, financial and social aspects in order to minimize the materialization of risks that impact on cost overruns.
