The aim of this investigation was to describe the perceptions about speed reading as a didactic strategy in order to improve reading comprehension of students at the course of Texts Comprehension and Writing I of a private university in Lima, in the summer cycle of 2020. The methodology had a qualitative approach with descriptive-explicative scope and phenomenological design. The participants were 15 young university students from the Texts Comprehension and Writing I course of a private university in Lima, in the summer cycle of 2020. The results revealed that speed-reading technique has a positive impact in reading understanding of university students at the literal and inferential levels, but it is necessary to continue practicing with more time and dedication to reach a critical level. Also, the participants perceived an increase of their Reading comprehension when they were able to express their ideas, deductions and arguments, using the speed-reading techniques of marking, fixed view and zigzag. From this, was concluded that speed-reading as a didactic strategy strengthens the reading comprehension of university students, according to what was mention by Anderson y Javal (2006), who define these techniques as a helpful procedure to understand the message of texts. Because of this, it is recommended to stablish programs that step up speed-reading as a didactic strategy in higher education.
