The research aimed to explain how digital teaching competences favor the development of remote emergency teaching, from the perspective of students of the Civil Construction Management career of a private institute in Lima, in the period 2021-1. The methodology used develops a mixed approach, anexplanatory scope andasequential explanatory design. The sample consisted of 111 students for the application of the quantitative instrument, and 15 students for the qualitative instrument. The results showed that the digital teaching competencies helped to partially overcome certain technological, pedagogical and socio-emotional challenges that the emergency remote teaching modality has posed, while other challenges were addressed entirely by the students and with the aidof other teaching skills, such as flexibility, empathy and concern for the well-being of the student. In addition, it was found that, in the opinion of the students, their teachers exhibited a good level of digital skills in certain areas, while they showed some weakness in others. It is concluded that, although teaching digital skills are essential to successfully develop the emergency remote teaching modality, they are not enough to fully address the challenges that lie ahead, especially those of a technological and socio-emotional nature. It is necessary that educational institutions take actions that reduce the digital gap of students and that teachers deploy skills that generate an environment of confidencein the classrooms.
