Through this research work, the problem of low educational quality at the higher level in Peru is investigated and two variables associated with this problem are subsequently analyzed: work incentives and teaching performance. The objective pursued by the study is to analyze the impact that work incentives (according to the perception of teachers), has on teaching performance (evaluated by students), in the Faculty of Education of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. The results found help to know the reality in both questions given in this important house of higher studies, representative of the large public universities in the country. The main hypothesis was the existence of a direct relationship between work incentives and teacher performance and through the statistical results, this was demonstrated, finding a Positive Correlation between the variables with a value of r = 0.426 (with a confidence level of 95%). It should be noted that this level of correlation is categorized as: Positive Weak, that is, not very strong. This is so because according to the descriptive results, teachers 'perception of work incentives was mostly REGULAR, while, on the other hand, students' perception of teacher performance was mostly considered GOOD.According to its approach, the research is quantitative and according to its level it is descriptive-correlational. The methodology is based on a non-experimental transectional design with a descriptive-correlational scope. To find the results, two instruments were used: A survey was applied to 76 teachers of the Faculty of Education of the UNMSM to know their perception and the degree of conformity they manifest with the work incentives regulated in their institution and, on the other hand, the results of the survey on teaching performance that the university itself applies to students in all faculties were processed and found annually. The study has also revealed that in the UNMSM there is no explicit work incentives program, but rather that they are established implicitly through the University Law and the internal regulations of the institution. This fact leads to suggest that there is a need to design at the government level and within universities like this one, applicable policies and programs on work incentives, following the example of institutions at the international and national level that have implemented them with good results.
