The objective of the present research was to determine the level of emotional intelligence in secondary education teachers from South Lima. For this purpose, descriptive research with a quantitative approach was carried out, with a non-experimental simple descriptive design. The population consisted of 5880 secondary education teachers from South Lima. To obtain the sample, the formula for calculating proportions with a finite population or known size was used, and it consisted of 68 teachers: 47.06% male and 52.94% female, whose ages ranged from 20 to 65 years old. The instrument used was the BarOn ICE test adapted by Dr. Nelly Ugarriza (2001) for Peruvian reality. The results indicate that the teachers who participated in the research obtained the following scores of emotional intelligence: 11.76% reached a very high level, on the other hand, 27.94% presented a high level; 1.47% had an adequate level, 32.35% presented a low level, and 11.76% presented a very low level. It is concluded that a low level of emotional intelligence prevails among secondary school teachers in South Lima; regarding the high level, a low percentage of it is observed, becoming a concerning situation.
