Considering the problem of the lack of reading skills and the motivation for reading in high school students, it is necessary to look for and elaborate new teaching strategies that allow students to discover the joy of reading because the deterioration of motivation for reading and the deficit of reading itself affect the academic performance of students. For this reason the purpose of this investigation is to design the program The World of Reading as an alternative strategy to help them discover the pleasure of reading and to develop intrinsic motivation for reading among high school students because intrinsic motivation contributes and improves reading comprehension. The present investigation analyzes the effect of the program The World of Reading in the intrinsic motivation in third year high school students. The general objective was to evaluate the effect of the program The World of Reading on the intrinsic motivation for reading, and the specific objectives were to determine the effect of the program on interest in reading and in choosing to read voluntarily in the students. The sample was taken with a total of 50 students from third year high school in the National Educational Institution in Las Brisas de Villa de Chorrillos, Lima. The collection of data took place through the application of a questionnaire on motivation for reading adapted from Wigfield and Guthrie. The results revealed that the application of the program The World of Reading has a positive effect on the motivation for reading because it demonstrated an increase in the intrinsic motivation for reading among the students.
