The main objective of this research was to determine the relationship between family functioning and the social skills of the students of the VII Cycle of Regular Basic Education of an educational institution in Callao. The non-experimental design, of a descriptive correlational level, was used. We worked with a sample composed of 160 3rd grade students. to 5th. year of both sexes, whose ages varied between 14 and 17 years, to whom the Family Cohesion and Adaptability Assessment Scale (FACES III) was applied, proposed by Olson, Porther and Lavee (1985) and adapted in Peru by Reusche (1994) and Cerna (1995); and the Checklist and Evaluation of Social Skills, proposed by Goldstein, Sprafkin, Gershaw and Klein (1978) and adapted in Peru by Tomás (1994-95) and Santos (2012). After the analysis of the study variables, the results showed that there is a statistically significant relationship, with a positive trend and a moderate level of rho = 455, between family functioning and social skills; Likewise, there is a correlation between family cohesion and the dimensions of social skills, where it is observed that cohesion is related in a weak and significant positive way, with all the dimensions of the social skills variable, with a rho =.394 in the first social skills, up to rho = 299 in skills related to feelings. Likewise, it is observed that adaptability is related in a weak and significant positive way with all the dimensions of the social skills variable, with a rho =, 361 in the skills to cope with stress, up to rho =, 317 for the skills related to the feelings.
