The objective of the research work was to determine the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Academic Performance of students in the 2nd year of high school from a parochial educational institution in the district of Barranco. The research has been of a correlational level, of a basic type and of a non-experimental - transectional design. The population consisted of 120 female students, and the sample was determined through census sampling. The ages of the participants were between 13 and 15 years old. The instrument used was the Bar On ICE: NA Emotional Intelligence Inventory (Reuven Bar-On, 1997) adapted by Ugarriza and Pajares (2003) in Lima-Peru. The results obtained showed that there is no significant correlation between general Emotional Intelligence, the Intrapersonal, Interpersonal and Stress Management scales with general Academic Performance, as well as that obtained in the curricular areas of Mathematics and Social Sciences. However, a significant positive relationship was found between the Adaptability scale and general Academic Performance, as well as between said scale and the Mathematics curricular area. Reaching the conclusion that a good management and development of the socio-emotional skills that constitute adaptability, which can contribute to the improvement of the area of mathematics and at a general level. Therefore, it has been considered pertinent to recommend the strengthening of Emotional Intelligence through programs and workshops.
