The main objective of this research was to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic procrastination in first, second and third grade students of a public educational institution in San Juan de Miraflores. This study corresponds to a nonexperimental cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 200 students, whose ages ranged from 12 to 15 years. The instruments used were the abbreviated version of the Bar-On ICE Emotional Intelligence Inventory: NA and the Academic Procrastination Scale (EPA). The results indicated that 75% of the students presented a level between normal and highly developed emotional intelligence, and 48% a high level of academic procrastination. It is concluded that there is a negative and weak relationship between emotional intelligence and academic procrastination (Rho = - .339**), this same relationship was found between academic procrastination and intrapersonal components, adaptability, stress management and mood, not finding a relationship between the interpersonal component and academic procrastination.
