The objective of this work has been to argue the link between study habits and the academic motivation of the students enrolled in the semester 2019-I. With a quantitative, basic and descriptive correlational approach, where the population is composed of 319 and by means of probabilistic sampling a sample of 175 students of the different professional careers, enrolled in the semester 2019-I was obtained. To those who administered questionnaires consisting of: the study habits test and the academic motivation scale, the instruments were validated by experts, whose reliability was obtained from the Cronbach alpha test coefficient, whose values are: (0.777) and (0.840), respectively. The process and analysis was performed using the statistical software SPSS. The findings found show that the majority of students at a rate of 63% have a medium degree of study habits, while 24% have a high level of academic motivation; This result was confirmed by obtaining a positive, moderate and statistically significant correlation (r = 0.606; p = 0.000 <0.01), so it is recommended to promote the acquisition of positive study habits among students, being the main responsibility of them students and parents, which must be reinforced within the university classrooms.
